Firm's Marisol Gomez Elected President of PRBA of Fla., Vice Chair of Fundraising for ASPIRA Miami-Dade, And Meets Justice Sonia Sotomayor

The law firm's Marisol Gomez recently had the honor of being one of only five ASPIRA of Florida delegates to receive a personal invitation to a private reception with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor in Washington D.C. This invitation-only event was held for national organization leaders and provided Gomez with a unique opportunity to meet Justice Sotomayor and hear her speak about her path in the legal profession to the Supreme Court.

“As a proud Puerto Rican descendant, I was honored and moved to have had the opportunity to have one-on-one contact with Justice Sotomayor,” said Gomez. “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and an experience which I will never forget.”

The Gamba & Lombana associate was also recently honored to be elected as President of the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida, a two year term which will begin at her installation at the Puerto Rican Bar Association's Gala to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Coral Gables on November 14, 2009.

Gomez was also elected as Vice Chair of Fundraising for the Miami-Dade Local Advisory Council of ASPIRA of Florida, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides leadership development and educational programs for minority children throughout the state and provided Gomez with the opportunity to meet Sotomayor.

“I am very excited and motivated to have been elected as President of the Puerto Rican Bar Association and will continue to promote education to minority students as part of my involvement with the Puerto Rican Bar and ASPIRA,” said Gomez.

Gomez currently serves as a Board of Governor of The Florida Bar's Young Lawyers Division. She is currently serving her fourth year on the Board of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and as its Secretary for 2009-2010, and she is the chairperson for the Puerto Rican Bar Association's 2009 Annual Gala. Gomez is also a member of the Dade County Bar Association, Cuban American Bar Association, Florida Justice Association and the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women. She earned a law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in May 2005 and an MBA in corporate finance and legal implications (2002) along with a bachelor's degree in business administration and criminology (1999) from the University of Miami.
